and sleep and sleep and sleep is a one act play focusing on how power corrupts, the abuse of trauma, the questioning of authority, and the violence inherent within toxic masculinity.

Outside of the last remaining city in the world is a camp, filled with those not fit to work, and not fit to live within. They live hoping for the chance to prove themselves and be let inside, guided by their leader, Ori, a blind old man claiming to be able to see the Truth. This camp life is far from perfect, newcomer Jack notices, as the bizarre rituals, seemingly pointless hunts, and practices of self mutilation do nothing to better their chances of a life within the city of COTBED. While Sergei, a doctor removed from the city because of his unsteady hands, and Mason, a fanatic obsessed with violence and being a ‘true man’, do not see the cracks in Ori’s logic, Heidi, survivor in every sense of the word, knows more than she lets on.

As tensions rise and more secrets are revealed, it becomes clear that the traumas of the past are being used for the advantage of one against the others. In a world where to work means everything, is it so wrong to be a king of those who have been rejected, giving them a home a purpose outside of what they have been told. When the ‘perfect’ life has been taken away, the thing everyone dreams for, what is left other than to sleep and sleep and sleep?
